We have learned some things.
Carrizo Springs is closing, perhaps already closed. The children gone.
The reopening of Fort Sill detention camp, for children, has been indefinitely postponed.
The population of children at Homestead was reported yesterday at 894, one third of what it was three weeks ago.
We are all worried about what is happening to the children. We don’t know how many are going to family and sponsors and how many are going to other prisons.
I am especially worried about the fate of so-called Cat. 4 children—those children who are classified as having no family to go to in the US. We are told they have no one to go to, but we don’t know how that determination is made. Perhaps sponsors are afraid to come forward because of the risk of their own abuse and deportation by our immigration police. Perhaps they simply have lost track of family.
What will happen to them?
Eyes open.
