“After receiving Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature earlier this month, a new law banning so-called sanctuary cities in Florida went into effect today.
Local governments will now be required to “use their best efforts to support the enforcement of federal immigration law,” according to SB 168. In other words, local governments will now be forced to honor “immigration detainer” requests, which require law enforcement to detain a person on probable cause if they are “removable” under federal immigration laws.” Read more at Orlando Weekly here.
